An Electronics Revolution

It would be hard to overstate the role of electronics in modern society.  It’s almost harder to comprehend how far the technology has come — from the first transistor to the first integrated circuit to the Moon race to today’s ubiquitous smart phones.  Indeed, a typical cell phone carries vastly more compute power than an Apollo spacecraft!

But what’s next?  As always, technology is restless.  It looks to the future and demands, “Now what?”

Bill Chappell of DARPA says: “For nearly seventy years, the United States has enjoyed the economic and security advantages that have come from national leadership in electronics innovation. If we want to remain out front, we need to foment an electronics revolution…”
